Flagged as spammer

Flagged as spammer

Note: This information also refers to the independent Visforms plugin SpambotCheck.

Note: This FAQ essentially relates to the IP address, but the content also applies to an email address.

The scenario

You send a form and it refuses to submit.
The following error message appears:

The form could not be sent because your email or IP is listed in an official spambot database.
If you are actually a user of our site, we apologize.
Please send us a message to solve the problem.

Spam protection for forms

This behavior is a feature of Visforms.
More about this in: Spam protection for forms.

The message is correct

The text of the message correctly describes what happened.
When attempting to submit the form, the sending IP address was found in one of the online spambot databases with the classification Spammer.
As a result, according to the form configuration, Visforms prevents acceptance of the submitted form and displays a corresponding message. \

Note: It is assumed below that you are not the spammer yourself.

There are many reasons why your IP address was found in one of the online spambot databases with the Spammer rating, including the following:

  • Your IP address is also assigned to other users by your provider.
  • One of these other users from your provider with the same IP address has currently or previously sent significant spam.

In this case, your neighbor’s spam activity will also have a harmful impact on you. You will then also be considered an international spammer because you have the same IP address (regulated by your provider).

To remedy this, you can try:

  • Enter the offending IP address in the whitelist in the form configuration.
  • Wait and see whether the provider assigns a different IP address at short notice.
  • Contact your provider and ask them directly.
  • Change your provider if such incidents occur too often.

Use the whitelist in the form configuration

At least temporarily, you can enter your IP address in the whitelist in the form configuration.
